THE WOODLANDS, Texas – In a growing sport, the pop of the paddle has started to capture a younger audience.
12-year-old Pierce Behr of The Woodlands is looking to become one of the next great pickleball players and chose it over many other sports he could have played.
“It’s just so awesome, the competitiveness and versatility of the sport is awesome,” Behr told KPRC 2’s Ari Alexander.
Behr started playing two years ago at a court in his grandfather’s backyard. He quickly got addicted.
“Ever since the start I wanted to be super good at this game,” said Behr.
Behr has become super good. He’s ranked in the top 10 in boys 14U singles, Boys 14U doubles and Boys 14U mixed doubles.
For the fourth year in a row, Pickleball has been ranked as the fastest growing sport in America, according to a report from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association.
Behr’s current goal is to play and medal in the Pickleball World Championships, held up the road in Dallas from Nov. 3-9.
