Tip to Dickinson Police Department leads officers to suspect in fatal shooting of woman in La Marque

LA MARQUE, Texas – La Marque police say a suspect in a fatal shooting has been arrested.

Officers were dispatched around 6:05 p.m. on Nov. 11 to a reported disturbance at a home in the 1200 block of Kirsten Street.

While police were en route, a woman was shot in the face at the residence.

She was transported by La Marque EMS but later died from her injuries.

Investigators identified the suspect as Keith Ray Smith Jr., 18.

Officers initially believed Smith had barricaded himself inside the residence, but he was not at the scene when authorities arrived.

On Wednesday evening, La Marque police announced Smith was taken into custody.

According to La Marque PD, the Dickinson Police Department received a tip just before 6 p.m. reporting a sighting of a person who matched Smith’s description.

Officers found and detained the person until La Marque officers arrived and confirmed the person was indeed Smith.

Smith is charged with murder and has a bond set at $1 million.
