HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Authorities have shut down an unlicensed medical boarding home accused of operating illegally in northeast Harris County.
The home, located on Beckett Ridge and known as Bella’s Village Cottage Care, was closed this afternoon with assistance from Harris County Precinct 4 Constables.
The investigation began after investigators said a man called 911 to report a medical emergency involving an elderly patient who later died from natural causes inside the home.
While on scene, deputies encountered Lawrence Harris, who refused to identify himself. Further investigation revealed he had active warrants in Harris County for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and theft.
“It was discovered that the caretaker at the residence gave law enforcement obvious signs of false information,” Captain Gheen said.
The owner, Glenda Adams, was arrested and charged with operating a personal care facility without a license. Investigators revealed she had been running the assisted living facility illegally since 2018.
Signs posted on the door ordered the immediate closure of the facility. Authorities found a total of four patients inside, including the deceased man.
The surviving patients were relocated to other medical facilities for evaluation. Adult Protective Services is assisting with their transition.
Constables noted this was the second natural death at the home in the past year and urged families to thoroughly research medical boarding homes before placing loved ones.
