MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says it tested candy for the presence of narcotics after concerned parents said their child ingested candy that reportedly had a white substance in the center of it.
The sheriff’s office said it happened in the Walden subdivision last night.
The child’s parents took them to a nearby fire station where deputies responded.
The sheriff’s office told KPRC 2 a field test used by a patrol deputy showed a presumptive positive test result for narcotics and the child was transported to a hospital out of an abundance of caution. Tests run on the child showed no presence of narcotics and the child has since been released.
On Saturday, investigators used much more accurate testing equipment, which showed a negative result for any narcotics. The candy instead tested positive for corn starch.
The sheriff’s office said out of an abundance of caution, the candy is being sent to a DPS laboratory for even more scrutiny.
