The shooting happened nearly two weeks ago on Oct. 12. Officers found Richard Samora, 30, and another victim with gunshot wounds on the 400 block of Bay Avenue in Kemah.

Both victims were transported to a hospital in Clear Lake for treatment, but Samora would die from his injuries. The other victim is still hospitalized but in stable condition.

Investigators detained Malo for questioning after the shooting, but he was released later that night due to insufficient evidence.

However, further investigation that included surveillance footage and witness accounts provided new evidence linking Malo to the shooting. An arrest warrant was accepted by the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office.

Malo is currently being held in Galveston County Jail. His bond was set at $250,000.
