Grass fire breaks out in Montgomery County days after new burn ban issued

Just days after Montgomery County enacted a countywide burn ban, a grass and woods fire broke out Thursday near Old Houston and FM 1314.

Officials with the Porter Fire Department said the fire burned a total of 35 acres, but is now fully contained.

Seven departments responded to the fire. The fire moved quickly, but no structures were burned. The cause is unknown at this time.

Fire officials said multiple citations were issued over the weekend after responding to burn complaints across Montgomery County.

They’re urging residents to follow the new burn ban as dry conditions continue to pose a fire risk.
