Last night, the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys faced off in a thrilling back-and-forth affair in primetime. Momentum shifted between sidelines in the overtime duel that ultimately ended in a 40-40 tie.
While neither fanbase seemed thrilled about that outcome, a certain sector of NFL fans celebrated. The 40-40 final score marked the latest Scorigami.

“Scorigami” is the term for when a final score is achieved for the first time in the history of a sports league.
The idea was founded in 2014 by SB Nation blogger Jon Bois and popularized by a 2016 YouTube video narrated by Bois explaining the concept.
Other leagues, such as the NBA and MLB, have made their own versions of the idea, but Scorigami has existed most popularly as an NFL phenomenon.
The emergence of sports gambling has given way to fans who cheer for spreads, totals and moneylines rather than standard teams. Scorigami rejects both traditional and money-based fandom. Fans of Scorigami celebrate uniqueness and chaos by any means necessary.

So far, there have been 1,093 unique final scores in NFL history.
