HOUSTON – Peace of mind is the goal in light of the recent church shooting in Michigan, prompting local law enforcement to step up security efforts at places of worship across the Houston area.

Deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office will have extra patrols at local churches throughout Precinct 4.
“Our mission is clear: to ensure that every resident can gather, worship, and find peace in their faith and community without fear,” Herman said.
Just last year, there was a shooting at megachurch Lakewood Church in Southwest Houston.

Genesse Moreno walked in carrying two guns with her 7-year-old son on a busy Sunday morning before opening fire.
Her son was shot, as was another man, but both survived. Off-duty police officers, meanwhile, shot and killed Moreno.
Investigators say she acted alone and had a history of mental issues. It was a tragedy that hit so many people who go to church and who want to feel safe.
