3 men shot after brawl outside Cantina Barba in Woodland Heights

Houston police say three men were shot early Sunday morning following a fight outside the Catina Barbra on North Main near downtown.

Officers responded about 3:30 a.m. after reports of a shooting.

According to investigators, the incident began when a man at the bar refused to leave a bathroom. The security guard was then alerted by customers and ended up escorting the man outside. At that time, police say about six or seven of the man’s friends began to attack the security guard.

During the scuffle, the guard told police he felt someone reach for his gun; so he then drew his gun first, striking two people in the chest and an employee in the hand.

“While on scene, the security guard complained of some medical issues and was also transported. The security guard is a licensed security guard. We ask if there was anybody here (who) witnessed what occurred, to please reach out,” said HPD.

A nearby resident at the scene described the area’s late-night activity, saying a concert at a nearby music hall drew in a rowdy crowd.

Victor Vargas, who lives near the venue, said traffic from two concerts backed up along North Main around 11 p.m., spilling into neighborhood streets. He described the crowd as rowdy and aggressive, with drivers cutting through the area, running stop signs and speeding to get in and out.

“They come through the neighborhood, they zoom around trying to get in and out, but there’s no out way, so they just come through. You have to be careful running the stop signs, everything else,” Vargas said.

Police say they will speak with the victims at the hospital and share that information with the District Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed. No charges have been announced.
