CHANNELVIEW, Texas – Authorities say a man who was shattering windows at a Channelview apartment complex has died after being shot by responding deputies Friday.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said it happened at 719 Sheldon Road.
The sheriff’s office says deputies responded to the complex after getting multiple calls about a man breaking windows around 6:20 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they found a man that matched the description of the person witnesses said was breaking windows.
When they ordered him to stop, he refused and started running away through the complex. Deputies gave chase to try and detain him.
At some point, the man stopped. Deputies gave the man commands again. They noticed he had some sort of sharp object in his hand. Deputies ordered him to drop the object, but he refused and started moving toward the deputies, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
At that point, two deputies fired several shots, according to Gonzalez, hitting the man.
Life-saving aid was attempted on the man, who was transported to the hospital. He was pronounced dead after getting to the hospital.
Gonzalez said there will be a lengthy investigation on the shooting and everything that led up to it.
The two deputies who fired their weapons have been with the department between six months to a year. They will be placed on administrative leave, per department policy for deputy-involved shootings.
Gonzalez is also asking anyone who may have seen the events transpire to give the sheriff’s office a call. They do have several witnesses, but they are asking anyone who may have seen anything to call them.
