Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the call came in around 1:30 a.m. as an aggravated assault at a home on Trinity Star Drive in the Bridgeland neighborhood.

When they arrived, deputies said they found two teens had been stabbed, one of whom died from his injuries. Family members confirmed the slain teenager’s identity as Braylen Ezell, 17, with KPRC 2 News Reporter Corley Peel.

School officials at Cy-Fair ISD confirmed he was a student at Langham Creek High School in a letter to parents:

“The student will be greatly missed by family, friends, and teachers. This is indeed a very sad time for the Langham Creek School family.

“As adults, we are aware of the substantial emotional impact that follows the death of a loved one or friend. Children experiencing the death of a loved one or friend for the first time might be frightened or overwhelmed by the event. They will most likely be looking to you for emotional strength and guidance.

“In an effort to assist you in helping your child during this difficult period, we have attached a list of helpful information. The range of emotions for your child may vary based on his/her knowledge of this student or a previous experience with the loss of a loved one. We encourage you to listen to your child and be prepared to answer his/her questions simply and honestly.

“Counselors and other support staff were available at the campus today and will continue to be available to students, teachers, and parents.”

The second teen’s injuries and condition have not been released.

“They took a lot from us,” said Ezell’s aunt, Jennifer Berger. “In taking him away when they did, he was just starting his senior year. He’s not going to get to graduate, walk the stage, go to prom, go to Japan.”

Family members say there are videos circulating of the fight showing the tragedy with several witnesses watching and recordings of teens sharing information, but no one has been arrested.

“We honestly thought, that same day that the police were gonna have somebody in custody that day,” Berger said. “They’re out walking free. They’re able go out and be kids. And Braylen can’t.”

“What does justice look like for you?” Corley Peel asked Berger.

“Whoever’s involved needs to be caught and needs to be prosecuted to the fullest,” Berger responded.

HCSO said investigators are still interviewing witnesses, and no charges have been filed at this time. This could all change, however, based on what detectives learn in their ongoing investigation.

Ezell’s funeral is scheduled to be held Sunday at Klein Funeral Home located at 9719 Wortham Blvd.
