TEXAS – The family of a woman who they say died while in the custody of the Montgomery County Jail is demanding answers on how their loved one passed away.

The woman’s father and husband said Montgomery County officials never notified them about their loved one’s passing. Instead, the family said they found out through HCA Conroe when doctors informed them that she had passed away from an alleged cardiac arrest.

“This family has endured unimaginable pain-not only the sudden loss of their loved one, but also the shock of discovering her death only after being told by hospital doctors,” said their attorneys. “They deserve truthful answers, timely communication, and the opportunity to lay her to rest with dignity.”

Attorneys Alberto Ruiz and Courtney Vincent have announced that they intend to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Montgomery County on behalf of the family. The suit will seek accountability for the County’s failure to notify the family, as well as answers regarding the circumstances leading to the death of their loved one while in custody.

The family said they have since learned that the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy.
