The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, brought two shows to the NRG Stadium (after his Saturday show sold out).
According to NRG officials, The Weeknd is said to have broken records as "the highest-grossing Black male artist to ever headline NRG Stadium." Of course, this does not include the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, but the sentiment remains nonetheless.
“A legendary exit for a legendary artist,” NRG Park said in its Instagram post.
While The Weeknd is best known for songs like “Starboy” and “The Hills,” his performance is a long time coming, since his last time was in 2017 at the Toyota Center. Houston’s own Synth God Mike Dean and popular rapper Playboi Carti as his openers.
Dean has been paramount in generating dozens of songs from his new album, “Hurry Up Tomorrow.”
“It’s been too long, Houston. Way too f***ing long. It’s my fault, you know,” The Weeknd acknowledged to the crowd.“ I gotta be honest— I didn’t think you guys would show up tonight. But every time I come to Houston, you guys show me so much love."
The Weeknd’s final performance for the After Hours Till Dawn Tour will be in San Antonio, Texas, on September 3. To learn more or purchase tickets, visit his website.
