Suspected burglar found dead outside north Houston home; 2 HPD officers hurt in crash en route

Houston police say a man died early Wednesday morning while apparently trying to break into a home in north Houston.

Around 2 a.m., officers with the Houston Police Department were called to a burglary at a home on Blue Bell Road, near the North Freeway.

When they arrived, investigators said they found an unresponsive man in the courtyard area, with a significant amount of blood around him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed and will be determined by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Homeowners told police they did not know the man.

While officers were en route to the burglary call, an HPD patrol unit crashed into a ditch on Korff Drive. Both officers in the unit were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and are expected to recover. No other vehicles were involved.

The investigation remains ongoing.
