The Northwest Volunteer Fire Department said crews got the call around 3 a.m. at a home on Redding Springs Lane.
When firefighters arrived, they learned seven people were inside the home at the time of the fire. Family members at the scene told them there were still people trapped inside the home.
Firefighters made entry into the home and discovered a mother and child unresponsive on the second floor. They performed CPR on the two before transporting them to the hospital. They are said to be in critical condition.
Three other family members, including a 2-year-old, a 6-year-old, and another adult were taken to a hospital for minor injuries. The three are expected to be okay.
Two other people who were inside the home were uninjured.
Northwest Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, Wesley Cole, said that burglar bars for protection on the home slowed down rescuers’ response.
Family members told KPRC 2 crews at the scene that they were grateful for the first responders’ quick response and help with rescue.
The Harris County Fire Marshalls will be investigating the cause of the fire.
