HOUSTON – Residents at Timber Ridge Townhomes on Houston’s North Side report serious safety hazards and maintenance issues, including electrical fires, water damage, and mold problems that have gone unaddressed for months.
Multiple tenants described dangerous living conditions and a pattern of negligent response from property management, with some incidents potentially threatening residents’ lives.
Shantay Jackson, a three-year tenant, experienced an electrical fire in her bathroom on August 4.
“The fire alarms didn’t even go off,” Matthews said. “I woke up in the middle of the night, around 3 or 4 a.m., choking from the smoke.”
She reports still living without proper lighting weeks after the incident.
Jackson, a single mother, revealed management’s questionable solution to her electrical problems.
“They told me to buy a lamp with an extension cord and bring it into the bathroom so I can move it around,” Jackson said.
Another resident, Domineque Franklin, detailed an ongoing battle with water damage.
“The AC unit above the kitchen has been leaking for three months. That’s mold,” Franklin said.
She reports having to empty water buckets every two hours while management remained unresponsive to approximately 100 emails.
Franklin, who previously relocated within the complex due to a flooding incident, now faces additional challenges.
“I have to cook and clean with water all over my head, water going into the light fixtures,” she said.
Her unit also suffers from a wasp infestation. When confronted about these issues, the complex’s sole maintenance worker we saw declined to address residents’ concerns and tried to physically push Deven Clarke out of the office.
The leasing office directed KPRC 2 to submit the complaints via email addresses listed on a paper card.
Advocate Candice Matthews summarized the situation: “The conditions here are serious and atrocious.”
Property management has not responded to requests for comment about the residents’ complaints and repair timeline.
