HOUSTON – A man died after police said he crashed into a utility pole and knocked out power to dozens of customers near Washington Avenue.

It happened on Durham Drive and Nett Street at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

The man driving died at the scene, but he had not been identified. Police said he was in his late 30s.

CenterPoint Energy was on the scene to repair the utility pole and restore power to customers in the area.

The company released a statement that said, “Our hearts go out to all who are affected by this incident. CenterPoint Energy crews are onsite collaborating with first responders and law enforcement to secure the area and restore service to the 27 impacted customers safely and as quickly as possible.”
