HOUSTON – A terrifying home invasion ended with two suspects dead late Friday night after they posed as police officers and opened fire on a Southeast Houston home.
The shooting happened around 11 p.m. in the 4800 block of Bellnole Drive, according to the Houston Police Department.
Investigators say two masked men wearing bulletproof vests, ski masks, and badges around their necks showed up at the home claiming to serve a warrant. When the homeowners became suspicious, the suspects fired shots through the front door.
The homeowners returned fire, striking both men.
Lt. Khan with HPD said both suspects were pronounced dead at the scene.
“These suspects were wearing bulletproof vests and had some sort of badge around their neck and were wearing ski masks as well. So right now, we don’t have ages on the suspects. They look to be younger, maybe at the most like in their 30s, and the complainants are okay. They’re not struck, they’re not injured,” Khan said.
Neighbors told KPRC 2’s Re’Chelle Turner that crime in the area is getting worse, and they hear gunfire often. Many declined to go on camera but said they are shaken by the deadly home invasion.
One resident shared security camera footage with Turner and you can hear at least 6 gunshots.
Police say the suspects never made it inside the house.
According to Lt. Khan, the homeowners were immediately suspicious because the men did not arrive in a patrol car and had no lights or sirens. Their Ring camera also captured the incident.
“The homeowners were okay. They became suspicious because, you know, they had a ring camera too, and the suspects were saying they had a warrant. But, you know, it’s just two people, and they’re masked up, and no police cars, no lights or anything like that. So, they immediately became suspicious, and thankfully no one else was hurt,” Khan added.
Detectives spent hours at the scene collecting evidence and speaking homeowners.
