HOUSTON – A full-time nurse was arrested by Houston police on Monday after her 1-year-old infant was found in an unlocked car while the mother ate inside of a restaurant.
Sally Zamora, 29, was charged with abandoning a child and granted a personal recognizance bond.

Witnesses called law enforcement around 3:55 p.m. on Monday when they discovered the vehicle with the doors unlocked and the baby inside at the restaurant off the Northwest Freeway.
According to court records, Zamora ate inside a Mambo’s Seafood restaurant with her husband and other children while she kept an eye on the infant using a camera inside the vehicle.
The temperature in Houston reached 97 degrees on Monday, according to the KPRC 2 Weather Team.
The engine was running and the air conditioner was on, according to records, but the car was unlocked.
Zamora told police the child had been left by himself for over an hour and she didn’t realize the car was unlocked, according to records.
She also allegedly admitted to not physically checking on the baby because she was checking the camera. Records indicate alcohol may have been a factor in the offense.
The young boy was not injured, according to police.
As a condition of bond, Zamora has been ordered to enroll in a parenting class within 30 days and complete the class.
An HPD spokesperson told KPRC 2 that CPS was notified and the child was given to Zamora’s husband.
