A man has been charged with murder after a shooting at a Richmond Avenue apartment complex left another man dead during a family event, officials said.
Houston police responded around 10 p.m. on August 9 at the Westchase Forest Apartments, located at 11355 Richmond Avenue.

Officers from the West Side Patrol Division arrived to find a large crowd gathered outside apartment two, near a foyer area adjacent to the main parking lot. Witnesses told police the shooting followed an altercation during a family gathering. After an argument broke out, several people scattered and gunfire was heard.
A 31-year-old victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the back as he attempted to flee. He was unarmed at the time. Houston Fire Department personnel responded quickly but pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
Authorities detained several individuals for questioning. The suspect remained on site when officers arrived and admitted to shooting the victim. The suspect, identified as Jeremiah Lee Jackson, was taken into custody and charged with murder. He is currently held on a $300,000 bond, with a court hearing scheduled for August 12.
