After Lamar Little League punched its ticket to the 2025 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, it’s worth looking back at the history of Houston-area teams on the national baseball stage.
The history of Little League Baseball in Texas dates back to the mid-20th century.
Beginnings
In 1951, the first Little League charter in Texas was granted to Houston, making it one of the earliest Southern states to get involved. Other cities like Fort Worth, Dallas, and Waco followed quickly.
During this time, Little League Baseball spread across Texas, aided by community support and school partnerships. The warm weather allowed for longer playing seasons, helping leagues thrive all across the state.
Texas and the LLWS Structure
Because of its size and talent pool, Texas has two Little League regions:
- Texas East
- Texas West
Both regions compete in the Southwest Region, along with other nearby states like Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
Houston-area Teams at the Little League World Series
Texas has been a dominant force at the LLWS over the decades, and Houston has been represented plenty of times in Williamsport.
