The move was announced and went into effect on Monday, Aug. 4.

“Fort Bend ISD is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all students and staff,” Dr. Marc Smith, FBISD superintendent of schools, said in a statement. “Chief Sanders’s leadership, vision, and safety-first mindset make him an outstanding addition to our team.”

Sanders has worked in law enforcement for more than 20 years, including roles as a field training officer, lieutenant, district captain, and police academy commander.

Sanders most recently served as deputy chief of the Corpus Christi Police Department. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Excelsior College and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Lamar University.

He is also focused on strengthening relationships between the police department and the broader school community.

Sanders will oversee safety operations across the district, collaborate with district and campus leaders, and work closely with local law enforcement to keep students and faculty safe across the district.
