Three successful entrepreneurs saw a need in their community and stepped up to meet it. Friends and nonprofit founders, they’re working together to improve the lives of Houston’s youth through year-round support and back-to-school outreach.
Chris Boykins, owner of Glory Fitness and founder of the Chris Boykins Youth Foundations; Fred Weary, former Houston Texans offensive lineman and founder of both the Mad Lineman Foundation and the Shadow Creek Youth Football Association; and Joseph Roquemore, owner of Rock Boyz Barbershop and founder of the Rock-in-Hood Foundation, are three longtime friends using their platforms to give back to Houston’s youth.
For the past 11 years, they’ve worked together to bring much-needed relief to families as kids head back to school. Each year through their nonprofits, they collect and distribute everything from shoes and backpacks to school supplies, while also offering free haircuts and braids — all at no cost.
This year, the distribution will once again take place at HISD’s Worthing High School on Scott Street, where organizers expect another large turnout and many grateful families.
