New information is shedding light on the violent past of Carl Earl Redfield, the man at the center of a growing serial rape investigation in Harris County.
Redfield, 47, remains in jail with his bond set at $2.65 million. He is facing five felony charges connected to at least two victims, though investigators believe that number could be significantly higher.
Authorities with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office say Redfield was arrested on July 24 at the car dealership where he worked after one of the victims came forward. Since then, the sheriff’s office has confirmed that Redfield is the focus of a serial rape investigation.
He is accused of luring women through dating apps, meeting them at his home or a friend’s residence, and coercing them into sex using physical violence, threats involving a firearm, and false promises of financial help. Investigators believe he also recorded some of the encounters using a hidden camera without the women’s knowledge.
Redfield, who previously worked as a corrections officer in Indiana, is now being described by authorities as aggressive and prolific. His DNA is being sent through a national database in hopes of linking him to unsolved crimes in other jurisdictions. Law enforcement agencies in Indiana have also been contacted, as that is where Redfield lived before moving to Houston roughly five to six years ago.
This is not Redfield’s first run-in with the law. In 2021, he was arrested after allegedly hitting a woman in the face and strangling her during an argument about sex, just four months into their relationship. Prosecutors later dismissed the case due to insufficient evidence. In 2015, court records show he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault after hitting his then-wife in the face in a grocery store parking lot.
Redfield is currently charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault, one count of sexual assault, and one count of aggravated assault involving a family member. Each charge carries a substantial bond, and court records show the cases were filed between July 24 and July 26, 2025.
Investigators say Redfield often told women he was a lawyer, though he is not licensed to practice law. They also say he preyed on vulnerable women, using manipulation and intimidation to carry out his crimes.
Victims or anyone with information about Redfield are urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-274-9370. The HCSO Victim Assistance Unit is also available at 713-274-9369.
