HOUSTON – After making waves in 2024, the Genuine Cup is coming back to Houston; this time with even more global love and local heart.

From July 29 through August 1, Rice University will transform into the home base for 38 inclusive soccer teams from 23 different countries. These “Genuine Teams” are made up of athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including autism.

Organized by a Houston-based team and powered by the Genuine Foundation and the Torras Lombana Foundation, the tournament isn’t just about scoring goals; it’s about shifting the conversation.

“It’s a platform that brings together leaders, athletes, advocates, and innovators to reimagine inclusion from every angle and catalyze change,” Ana Ortiz, founder of the Genuine Foundation, said. “That’s why we created Genuine Connect: to build a space where relationships form, ideas grow, and new solutions emerge.”

It starts with Genuine Connect, a one-day summit kicking off Tuesday, July 29.

More than 200 participants from advocacy, business, and academia will come together in Houston to discuss big-picture ideas around inclusion, such as the power of neurodiversity in the workforce, and how sports can create a real sense of belonging.

Is it any wonder, then, that it is all happening in Houston? Everyone knows the Space City is known for showing up with open arms and warm hearts, which is why with Rice University hosting all matches on its campus, the Genuine Cup is betting big on H-Town’s hospitality.

Finals are set for August 1, but the whole week is expected to spark connection, pride, and purpose, both on and off the field.

Every athlete and delegation will also have their travel, lodging, and participation fully covered thanks to donations and sponsorships. It’s another reminder of how people can come together with intention, and barriers can be knocked down before the first whistle even blows.

The 2024 tournament reached millions. This year, it’s set to reach hearts.
