Houston Humane Society overwhelmed after Hill Country floods, seeks immediate volunteers (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)
The Houston Humane Society is putting out a call for help after taking in 43 dogs displaced by the recent flooding in the Texas Hill Country. With the shelter already at capacity, the added influx of animals is putting a major strain on resources.
One of the newest ways to get involved is through the Walking Club, which meets on the second Tuesday of every month. Volunteers take shelter dogs on walks to provide much-needed exercise, enrichment, and affection. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to show love to animals in need. Right now, only four volunteers are signed up for the club, and the goal is to at least double that number before the next outing.
In addition to the Walking Club, there are several other ways the public can pitch in:
Cat cuddler – Spend time comforting and socializing with shelter cats.
Match maker – Help potential adopters find the right pet for their lifestyle.
Clinic assistant – Support the team in the shelter’s wellness and spay/neuter clinic.
Pets for Life – Help deliver pet food and supplies to families in underserved communities.
Pet pantry distribution – Assist with regional events that provide pet food and essentials to those in need.
