Man accused of soliciting minor fires at deputies during car chase in Shepherd area

A man was taken into custody after a violent car chase with law enforcement officials in Shepherd.

The incident was first reported just after 11 a.m. Friday morning by San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office.

The situation started when authorities attempted to make contact with a Raul Alcantaria, 29, who was accused of soliciting a minor online for sex. When they encountered Alcantaria, he fled in a vehicle, leading them on a chase across multiple counties.

During the pursuit, Alcantaria got out of his car and fired multiple shots towards the deputies, Liberty County Sheriff Captain David Myers confirmed. Nobody was hit or injured by his shots.

A short time later, Alcantaria was captured and arrested. He faces two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, felony evading, and online solicitation of a minor. Further charges are also anticipated.

A deputy with Montgomery County Pct. 4 was injured during the pursuit and received stitches, Pct. 4 Constable Rowdy Hayden said. It’s unclear how the injury happened, but the scene is still being processed.

Pct. 4 provided KPRC 2 with the following statement:

“Our units assisted Montgomery County Pct4 Deputies in this situation, I would point you to them for any details.

They have one in custody and there is no threat to the public at this time."
