HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Nearly a year after a newborn baby was found dead inside the back of a trash truck in Northwest Harris County, the child’s mother has been charged.
Catherine Nicole Innes, 23, is charged with tampering with evidence - human corpse. She has been booked into the Harris County Jail.
The incident happened on Aug. 14, 2024, when workers in a waste collection truck discovered the newborn inside the back of the truck in the 13200 block of Fountain Crest Drive.
Court documents allege Innes told authorities she gave birth to the child at home, but when she noticed the infant was no longer breathing, she became frightened and placed the infant inside a trash bag.
She then placed the bag into an outside garbage bin where it sat for approximately three days until it was collected during routine garbage pickup and the discovery was made, according to the documents.
The documents also allege Innes told authorities that she had another child and although she and her boyfriend desired more children, she did not believe it was the right time.
Innes is appeared in court Monday evening. She was given a $50,000 bond.
