HOUSTON – The Houston SPCA says 50 dogs and puppies were rescued from a property in southeast Houston where they were found living in horrific conditions.
The Houston SPCA’s animal cruelty investigators along with the Harris County Pct. 1 Constable’s Office said the floors of the home were covered in urine and piles of feces were scattered throughout the home.

The dogs and puppies were found to be suffering from various forms of neglect including untreated skin conditions, urine-soaked and matted fur, as well as dental disease and other health concerns.
“These animals were living in a diseased environment that was not only unhealthy but dangerous to any living being,” said Dr. Roberta Westbrook, Chief Veterinarian for the Houston SPCA. “The high levels of ammonia made this a very toxic space,” said Westbrook.
All the dogs were removed from the home and taken to the Houston SPCA campus. The animals received medical evaluations and plans for individual treatment from veterinary and animal care teams.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled next week and the investigation is ongoing.
