OUR FIRST REPORT: Galveston bar shooting leaves one man dead, another in critical condition
Vincent Gulley was at Ol’ Mothers Speakeasy in Bacliff with his wife and several friends. Shortly after the bar closed, an argument broke out between Gulley and another man in the bar’s parking lot, escalating into fists being thrown by both parties.
During the fight, Aldeson pulled a firearm from his waistband and fired at multiple people. Gulley was shot twice in the back while he was still engaged in the hand-to-hand fight.
Gulley was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
After firing the shots, Aldeson then fled the scene. After an investigation by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, he was indicted for murder and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Aldeson’s trial began July 7. Prosecutors presented surveillance footage capturing the entire shooting. Jurors saw Aldeson, his father, and a friend leave the bar. Aldeson’s friend threw a beer bottle from their car, shattering it in the parking lot, which sparked insults and the brawl.
The video showed Aldeson removing a firearm from his pants, turning, and firing at people nearby. Three victims fell to the ground. Aldeson continued shooting at others as they fled.
He was then captured shooting a victim again while walking to his car, lighting a cigarette nonchalantly, and driving off.
Multiple witnesses testified about the moments before the shooting and the life-saving efforts they made for the victims.
Investigators also said Aldeson destroyed evidence linking him to the crime.
The jury found Aldeson guilty Wednesday morning of murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
During the sentencing, prosecutors revealed Aldeson had started community supervision for felony aggravated robbery in Harris County just one month before the shooting.
“Every shot he fired that night should not have happened,” Alley said. “He wasn’t supposed to have a firearm for 10 years. He couldn’t even wait a month, and now a man is dead because of him.”
In addition to the 35 year sentence for murder, Aldeson received 20 years for aggravated assault. The sentences will run concurrently.
