Authorities have detained a woman who is suspected of fatally shooting an elderly woman who was collecting aluminum cans at her apartment complex.
The shooting happened at an apartment complex located at 4000 Griggs Road around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 15.

Amber McNulty, 43, is believed to have fired the shots that killed the 75-year-old woman. The victim’s identity is pending notification to family members.
According to HPD officials, officers responded to reports of a shooting and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Further investigation revealed the victim was known for collecting aluminum cans in the area. On the day of the shooting, she was gathering cans that a resident had set out for her on an apartment porch.
McNulty lived at the same apartment complex as the person who had put out the cans.
McNulty reportedly saw the victim collecting the cans, put on a ballistic vest, armed herself with a gun, and fired through the apartment window at the victim.
McNulty stated she felt threatened and was trying to protect herself.
She was detained without incident and charged with felon in possession of a weapon.
She has not been charged in regard to the shooting at this time, but HPD said additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
