With the 2025 Hurricane Season in full effect, a university study may put some fears at ease.

Researchers at Colorado State University released their updated forecast on Atlantic Seasonal Hurricane Activity and found a slight decrease in their forecast. As a result, they are now calling for a slightly “above-normal 2025 Atlantic basin Hurricane season.”
“The primary reason for the slight decrease in the outlook is both observed and predicted high levels of Caribbean shear,” the summary report explained. “High levels of Caribbean shear in June/July are typically associated with less active hurricane seasons. However, we also anticipate the tropical Pacific to be characterized by ENSO neutral conditions.”
Still, this doesn’t mean we are out of the woods completely. Every warning should still be taken seriously, and the KPRC 2 Weather Team is actively monitoring for any changes.
