KERRVILLE, Texas – Hundreds of people gathered for prayer, support and mourning in Kerrville on Wednesday evening.
Five days after the catastrophic flash flooding tore through the Guadalupe River early in the morning, the community gathered for the first time at Antler Stadium to remember those lost and still missing in the flood.
“We’re in Kerrville, Texas tonight,“ said one of the speakers. ”He would tell us that the kingdom of God is like serving thousands of free meals every day to volunteers and first responders.”
The stadium was filled with people with heavy hearts. Many were crying and comforting one another during the prayer service and gospel music.
“The Kingdom of God looks like hundreds of volunteers walking our riverbanks on a daily basis with chainsaws and equipment and things that they and clear the path for families to be able to be. Have closure with what they’re doing,” a pastor said.
“This is our home, this is the beautiful hill country that we have grown to love and to cherish,” added another speaker at the vigil.
In a community that is knocked down, this was an opportunity for Kerr County to lift up their neighbors, their friends and their family.
“The Kingdom of God looks like Kerr County rising together in a time of need, in a time of desperation, in time of hurt,” the pastor said.
