Kerr County, TEXAS – A nonprofit called Land of Lovies is helping kids get reunited with their best friends.
For many kids, a stuffed animal is more than just a toy. It’s their companion, source of comfort, and best friend.
That’s why mother of three, Ashley Reckdenwald, is on a mission to help kids who have just gone through a catastrophic event get their stuffed animals back.
It all began as an initiative after the Los Angeles wildfires.
“I wanted to do something, and I knew I could start by helping the kids,” said Reckdenwald.
Quickly, the initiative turned into a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Now, Reckdenwald wants to help any kid after a disaster.
“We really believe that these stuffed animals are more than just things. They really hold the emotional memories of the child. And so for us, it’s important to add a story to that emotion,” said Reckdenwald.
To date, she said at least four families have reached out to Land of Lovies to help get their kids their stuffed animals.
The stuffed animals could either be replaced by finding the same replica or by finding a craftsman who can create something similar.
It takes about five to seven days for the stuffed animal to get into the hands of the child, according to Reckdenwald.
“We don’t want to waste any time between or nights, you know, night times that those children need to go without these items that they rely on to sleep and to feel better about their days, especially when they’ve lost so much,” said Reckdenwald.

Reckdenwald said the nonprofit accepts donations and will replace the lovie for free.
