The agency has taken in 26 dogs from the Hill Country Humane Society, which is located in Buchanan Dam, Texas.

This is to help free up the shelter for an expected influx of animals from places like Brady and San Saba, which experienced flooding.

Richard Perez with the Houston Humane Society says this is the first time they have assisted this particular shelter, but they have helped out other shelters in the past.

According to Perez, three shelters in the Texas Hill Country flooded and the Hill Country Humane Society was helping to house the animals in those shelters. They sent 26 dogs, which are all available for adoption, to the Houston Humane Society, which will allow them to be able to take in more animals from affected areas.

“We’re here to help the animals. There are other agencies out there helping the people and once the people are situated, we’re able to reunite the animals with the people,” Perez said.

Perez said the more animals they can get adopted, the more they can assist other shelters that may be in need.
