A local animal rescue group is asking for the public’s help after their mobile adoption van was broken into in the early hours of Monday morning in their parking lot.
Friends For Life, a no-kill animal shelter in Houston, said the incident happened in the early morning hours. While surveillance video captured the thief leaving on a bike, it’s too blurry to make out a face.

“This is super demoralizing,” said Executive Director Salise Shuttlesworth. “The mobile adoption vehicle is not just used to do mobile adoptions but we have taken it behind fire lines to respond to Texas wildfires, to Brazoria County and other areas hit hard by hurricanes. It is even our float during Pride.”
The thief also attempted to pry the generator off the group’s mobile medical response unit, which allows them to perform surgeries in the field.
In response, the organization has hired a security consultant and is moving forward with new safety measures, including vehicle alarms, monitored cameras, extra fencing and overnight security. Shuttlesworth says the added costs will strain resources already earmarked for animal care.
“All of these things take money from our original budget for the animals,” she said. “We’d very much appreciate community support in helping to afford all the security measures to keep our animals and our property safe.”
