Authorities learned that a five-person landscaping crew was on their lunch break when one employee, a 15-year-old from Houston, pulled out a handgun and began shooting at his co-workers.

Three male employees were hit by gunfire. A fourth male employee ran away, and he was chased by the suspect who continued firing. That employee managed to escape without injury.

One victim, a man from Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. One of those victims later died at the hospital, while the other is receiving treatment and is expected to survive.

All victims were adults; their exact ages have not been released.

Authorities have not released any information regarding the teen suspect’s motive, but they believe he was experiencing some sort of mental breakdown.

The teen was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in Lake Jackson for treatment. After being released from the hospital, he was taken to the Brazoria County Juvenile Detention Center, where he now faces multiple felony charges.

All individuals involved worked for a Houston-based landscaping company and had no known ties to Clute or Brazoria County.
