Man charged with murder in Houston parking lot had been removed from U.S. multiple times, records show

A man suspected of fatally shooting someone in a parking lot in Houston had been previously deported from the United States on at least two occasions, court records indicate.

The shooting incident happened on June 28.

Authorities responded to the Amigo Market located in the 8200 block of Fondren Road in Houston, where they found Jose Americo Ramos Guzman laying on the ground after being shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After obtaining surveillance footage from the area, officials saw footage of Ramos Guzman loitering and drinking with the suspect and three other men in the parking lot of the Amigo Market.

Ramos Guzman and the shooter stood up, and the shooter began to walk away before turning around, pulling a gun from his waistband and shooting the victim multiple times.

Through surveillance footage and interviews with witnesses, the suspected shooter was identified as Fernando Canales, 58.

According to court records obtained by KPRC 2, Canales was removed from the U.S. in 2012 and 2018.

Canales has now been charged with murder.
