HUNT, Texas – As many communities in the Texas Hill Country continue to search for victims and pick up the pieces following devastating floods, Sen. Ted Cruz was in Hunt, in Kerr County Monday.
Cruz spoke one-on-one with KPRC 2’s Gage Goulding and gave his thoughts on the devastation.
“I just came a minute ago from Camp Mystic. I’ve never seen anything as horrific. The cabin’s had eight feet of water in them," Cruz told Goulding.
Cruz says the community of Hunt has a special place in his family’s heart and that his daughters have gone to camp there for a decade.
“Just last week, Heidi was in town picking our youngest daughter up from camp. She and Heidi went to the Hunt store," Cruz said as he stood in front of the store, which is now a shell of what it once was.
He says he has spoken to many parents of children who were swept away.
“What do you tell a grieving parent and there’s nothing you can say other than love them, hug them, be there for them, have friends and family there,” he said.
He says there are enormous amounts of resources, both at the local, state, and federal level coming to the area.
