TEXAS – Devastation is lingering in Central Texas after a catastrophic flood left nearly 50 people dead and several missing this Fourth of July weekend.
On Friday, the catastrophic flooding struck Central Texas, causing the Guadalupe River near Kerrville to surge by more than 20-26 feet within 90 minutes, leading to widespread damage and road washouts.
Now, we are learning that several Houston people are among those still missing or found dead.
Many of the missing were attending Camp Mystic, a private Christian girls’ camp in Kerr County.
Gov. Greg Abbott, who toured the camp Saturday with rescue crews, vowed that authorities will work around the clock to find the missing girls and others swept away in the storm that caught many residents, campers and officials by surprise.
Many more are still missing, and authorities said about 850 people had been rescued so far.
The National Weather Service said a flood watch would remain in effect for the Hill Country region through late Saturday night.
Jane Ragsdale, a director at Heart O’ the Hills Camp in Texas Hill Country, was confirmed dead on Friday when the camp posted on their social media accounts.
There has been catastrophic flooding in the area overnight and we remain under flood watch until at least 5 PM today....

Jeff and Amber Wilson, along with their son Shiloh, from Kingwood, have also been reported missing. According to reports, the family was last seen at the HTR TX Hill Country Campground in Kerrville and hasn’t been missing since the flood hit on July 4.
Jeff is a teacher at Kingwood Park High School.
John Burgess, IV, Julia Burgess, John “Jack” L. Burgess, V (Far Right), and James Burgess (Being held by John in the photo) have all been reported missing. The family is reportedly from Liberty County.
On Saturday, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough confirmed that a Montgomery County native and a recent graduate of Caney Creek High School, Reese Manchaca, has been reported missing. Judge Keough said Manchaca, along with three of her friends, were swept away by the flood near 1769 State Highway 39 across from Japonica Hills Road in Hunt.
