HOUSTON – Two puppies seen in a viral video taken in Spring Branch showing a man choking one of the puppies by dangling it by its collar on Monday are now in the care of the woman who helped rescue them.

Callie Clemens runs a group on Facebook called Lost & Found Pets of Spring Branch in Houston.

When the video was posted on social media, she sprang into action to help find the two puppies.

For hours, she and her teammates camped in the area where the pups were last seen, only to find them in a shopping cart being pushed by an unknown woman.

The dogs spent the night at Callie’s place before being transferred to Houston’s BARC team where vets found they had a wide variety of serious health problems.

“Both dogs have Hookworms and Roundworms. One has healing abrasions on its rear paw pads. Otherwise, they appear to be doing well,” a BARC spokesperson told KPRC 2 on Wednesday.

Clemens is now fostering the two pups, named Ezra and Theo.

Thursday, she took the puppies to see Maria Salazar and her husband. Salazar was the woman who filmed the viral video and started the process to save the lives of the puppies.

Clemens intends to keep the puppies until they are medically cleared. Afterwards, they will be adopted out.

An animal cruelty investigation was opened and Houston Police were notified about the video.
