Man arrested for carjacking 93-year-old woman, stealing her walker

HOUSTON, Texas – A man has been arrested and charged after carjacking a 93-year-old woman and stealing her walker in Galveston on Thursday.

The Galveston Police Department arrested Doug Ancell, 66, and charged him with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He is currently being held in the Galveston County Jail.

Police responded to the Bob Lyons Post Office located on 59th and Broadway after receiving reports that Ancell confronted a 93-year-old woman, took her walker, and then fled in her SUV. The woman did not sustain any injuries.

Shortly after speaking with the elderly woman, police found the stolen SUV traveling north on I-45 and attempted to pull it over, but Ancell refused, leading officers on a short chase.

The chase ended in a Webster parking lot after the vehicle overheated. Ancell was arrested and charged.
