The Houston Fire Department is lending a hand to first responders in flood-stricken Kerr County, sending an engine and four members from its Tactical Deployment Unit to assist with recovery efforts.
In addition, three HFD firefighters have deployed as part of Texas A&M Task Force One, which is aiding in search and rescue operations across Central Texas after devastating flooding claimed lives and caused widespread damage.
“My thoughts are with the people of Kerr County and surrounding areas affected by the devastating flooding and loss of life,” said Houston Mayor John Whitmire. “As mayor of a city that knows the toll of major storms, I understand the fear and uncertainty so many are feeling. I’ve been in contact with Houstonians in the Hill Country, including parents with children at summer camps, to check on their well-being.”
Houston Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz added, “The loss of life and damage to communities in Central Texas is tragic. As we so often see help from around the state come to Houston when we face floods, we are proud to support others in their time of need.”
HFD will continue to provide updates on the Tactical Deployment Unit’s efforts.
