The Woodlands gears up for Red Hot and Blue festival, including huge fireworks celebration

The Woodlands is preparing for its annual Red Hot and Blue Fourth of July celebration, a community event that draws families and visitors for a weekend of fun.

Chris Nunes, chief operating officer of The Woodlands Township, described the fireworks display as a “series of mortars and cakes” that will be launched during the main show. He emphasized that safety is the top priority.

“If you don’t have a safe event, people don’t want to come,” Nunes said.

The fireworks are handled by credentialed professionals who manage thousands of shows each year across Texas and the country. These experts meet federal, state and local regulations, securing multiple permits to ensure the event runs smoothly and safely.

The fireworks will be launched from a designated area on the water, marked by four buoys, to maintain a safe fallout radius based on the size of the shells.

Nunes estimated there are thousands of fireworks set to light up the sky.

The festival is open to the public and free to attend. While food and drinks will be available for purchase, many parks will offer kids’ activities, making it a family-friendly event that Nunes says celebrates what America is all about.

The Red Hot and Blue Festival kicks off with the Star Spangled Salute tonight, with the fireworks celebration starting at 9:30 p.m. tomorrow night.
