Authorities had initially believed the suspect, described as a Hispanic man wearing a red shirt and blue jeans and driving a newer model white truck, had fled Galveston County.

Later Thursday, the suspect’s vehicle was located abandoned near Goliad, Texas. Goliad County Sheriff’s Office deputies quickly apprehended 29-year-old Jovani Rodriguez, who was taken into custody on a felony criminal trespass charge. Murder charges from Galveston County are now pending.

Officials thanked Sheriff Roy Boyd and the Goliad County Sheriff’s Office for their swift response, as well as the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in the case.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the suspect and the victim and do not believe there’s an ongoing threat to the public.
