The Pride Houston Parade began at Smith and Lamar at 7 p.m. The parade was free and open to all ages.

Aide Selinas came out to support one of her best friends who is part of the LGBTQ+ community.

“I just support him. I love him, so I’m here supporting,” Selinas said. “Life is way too short, and you have to be happy for who you are and what you are.”

This was her second time attending the event. “We just got here a little late, but I just love it,” she added.

Amberese Manuel joined the festivities with his sister and his sister’s girlfriend.

“We’re just out trying to see the sights and enjoy the festivities,” Manuel said. “Everything has been absolutely amazing. This is their first time here, and this is my third time at the pride.”

Manuel, originally from New Orleans, said his favorite part of the event is catching the throws.

“We’re used to throws and things like that, so we’re excited about catching some really good stuff,” he said. “Just seeing the people enjoying themselves and having a good time.”

When asked about his message for the community on a day like today, Manuel emphasized strength and vigilance.

“Stay strong, stay vigilant, stay alert,” he said. “Live your life but be mindful. Because in this day and age, we have a lot going on. It’s a lot working against us, but if we stay together, stick together, everything will be fine.”
