The Texas Education Agency makes this nontraditional route to certification possible through its Alternative Certification Programs (ACPs). ACPs also allow you to teach as a paid intern while you complete the program’s requirements.

Alief ISD is one of 19 ACP programs in the Houston area. There is a total of 103 ACP programs in all of Texas.

To be eligible, you must have the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, including a passing grade in at least one English and one math course.
  • Official college transcripts
  • Enrollment in an ACP upon signing an agreement with Alief ISD

Please note that you are responsible for the $50 it costs to enroll in a Texas-approved ACP, and you should expect additional fees when requesting college transcripts.

If you want to learn more about the opportunity, drop-in visits at the Alief ISD Center for Talent Development are available every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am-1 pm or 4 pm-6 pm until August 28th.
