HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Jeremy Fancher and Destiny Campos face murder charges in connection with the death of their 4-month-old daughter, Brookelyn Fancher, whose body was discovered in a dresser drawer at the Days Inn off Rancho Mission Drive in April 2024.
A month before his arrest, Fancher reached out to KPRC 2 Reporter Corley Peel through Facebook. In his message, he described returning to the hotel room after buying food for Memorial Day on May 26, 2024.
“When I left, my daughter was fine. She was asleep. Her brother was awake and so was her mother,” Fancher wrote in the message.
According to Fancher’s account, upon returning to the room, he noticed Campos and their 18-month-old son were awake. He claims when he approached the drawer where Brookelyn was placed, Campos fled down the hallway, screaming accusations that he had killed their daughter.
“I grabbed her (Brookelyn) up and immediately began giving CPR,” Fancher stated in his message.
Two month’s before their arrest, Campos provided a different version of events during an phone conversation with Corley, claiming she thought Fancher had taken Brookelyn with him to the store.
Lisa Farrell, Brookelyn’s grandmother, described troubling behavior from her daughter, Campos, immediately following the incident.
“When I asked her what happened, she wasn’t crying real tears,” Farrell said. “She just rubbed her face and did that fake sniffle stuff. All she kept telling me was, ‘I’m sorry, Mom, I am sorry, mom.’”
Authorities arrested Campos on Friday on a murder warrant. Fancher was later apprehended on Saturday in San Angelo and also faces murder charges. His girlfriend, Marilyn Jennifer Mork, who allegedly helped hide him from detectives, was arrested but has since bonded out.
Court documents reveal disturbing details about the case. Prosecutors allege the parents repeatedly placed their infant daughter in an enclosed drawer, intentionally stuffing towels around the edges to muffle her cries and prevent her from pushing the drawer open, ultimately causing her death by suffocation.
During Campos’ probable cause hearing, prosecutors revealed she is currently seven months pregnant. The judge noted that Campos allegedly told a witness this pregnancy would “replace the loss of her daughter.”
“I hope they spend the duration of the time that she (Brookelyn) lost in jail,” Farrell said, referring to her granddaughter’s lost future. “She’s never gonna have her graduation, she’s not gonna have a prom, she is never gonna have a wedding, she never gonna have a first born. She lost all that because of their stupidity.”
Fancher remains in Tom Green County Jail on an $850,000 bond, awaiting transfer to Harris County. Campos is in the Harris County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
