BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – Authorities are looking into how a chase with a suspect resulted in a shooting early Thursday morning in Brazoria County.

It happened on Hwy 288 near Sandy Point Loop in Rosharon.
According to Madison Polston, Public Affairs Director for Brazoria Co. Sheriff’s Office , it all started when a woman called 911 about an “impending disturbance.” She said an unidentified man may have been on his way to her home, and deputies knew he had outstanding warrants for assault charges.
At the scene, Polston was unable to disclose what the relationship was between the two, but the man wasn’t at the location that responding officers arrived at. However, investigators did notice a car matching the man’s vehicle’s description “committing a traffic violation.” That same car then turned into the victim’s neighborhood, and when deputies tried to pull the driver over, he fled, and a chase ensued.
Deputies set up a perimeter while the driver sped off, going the opposite direction on the highway before crashing into a ditch. He then got out of his car and took off on foot into a wooded area.
Deputies were able to find him in the densely wooded area, where they said he brandished a knife when they tried to arrest him. Two deputies then fired at him.
He was flown to a Houston-area hospital, where investigators say he died from his injuries.

Per policy, the officers who fired their weapons will be placed on administrative leave while Brazoria Co. conducts an internal investigation, while the Texas Rangers do a separate, external investigation.
Details are limited, due to how active the investigation is, but officials with the Brazoria Co. Sheriff’s Office confirmed a pursuit happened and at least one person (a suspect) was shot by a deputy.
No officers were injured, and the details as to how everything unfolded are limited, as of this writing.
