Mother seeks justice almost a year after son’s murder at Houston tow yard

HOUSTON – Nearly a year after her son was gunned down at a Houston tow yard, Marselina Ramirez Cisneros still struggles to sleep, haunted by the knowledge that half of his alleged killers remain at large.

Christian Segundo, 23, was shot multiple times on July 12, 2024, while working at a tow yard in the 5900 block of North Freeway.

Police say a group of males attempted to take a vehicle without paying, leading to the fatal confrontation.

“They had no remorse for my son or human life,” Cisneros said, her voice breaking as she stood near a memorial for her son. “To know that these people still walk among us, knowing that they could take the life of anybody and not care.”

OUR FIRST REPORT: Family seeks justice after Houston tow truck driver killed by 4 suspected thieves

Two suspects, Jrdan Mykel Joe and Troy Kyles, have been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting, but two others remain free, prolonging the family’s anguish.

The young tow truck driver left behind two children, now ages 2 and 3. “They come over and they see it and they’re like ‘dada, dada,’” Cisneros said, describing a memorial she created for her grandchildren.

She says Segundo was simply following standard protocol when he was killed, checking payment receipts at the yard’s gate when confronted by armed individuals. The encounter turned deadly when one suspect, allegedly armed with what Cisneros believes was an automatic weapon, opened fire.

“I thought losing my son was the hardest thing I’d ever have to go through,” Cisneros said. “But I was wrong. Living every day without him is hard.”

Houston police continue investigating the case and urge anyone with information about the remaining suspects to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. You could be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
